It seems like just yesterday was the beginning of March, and now it’s April all of a sudden. We had to make 2 trips to Pennsylvania which impacted much of the month. 5 years ago, driving or riding in the car for 12 hours in one day wasn’t too bad. Now, a trip like that or even a 2-day trip with 6 hours of driving each day hits my husband and I a bit more.

I don’t think I mentioned that I’ve worked part-time at Kohl’s since November. While I appreciate having the extra income to put towards our goals, the ever-changing retail schedule has been a bit tough to adjust to, particularly having to close the store a lot of times. And, having to work weekends. Mentally and physically it’s been an adjustment. However, the people I work with are fantastic, and I love having an excuse to talk to people and ask about them. Onward to the updates:
March Grocery Challenge – I need to run my final numbers. I’m catching up this week from working 5 days in a row. I think I hit my goal or went over a little bit. I’m staying at the same goal for April while making more food and getting more veggies started in the yard.
March Electricity Challenge – We did really well! In March 2024, we used 1,960 kWh; in March 2025 it was 1,760. In February 2025, we had used 3,080. I’m continuing the challenge for April; more details to come.
Garden – Everything is greening. This is year 4 of my efforts to improve the soil and the landscaping. I’ll be back with a brief outline of my plans for this year.
No Spend April – Given the current unsettled state of the economy, I decided to challenge myself with a no spend month. I started a list of items we need to buy like my daughter’s prom dress with a goal to spend as frugally as possible. I’m also looking ahead to May for items like 2 new tires for my car which I think we may end up getting at Sam’s Club.
Planning ahead for May – My second son moves home from college for the summer. My daughter is graduating from high school. I need to make hotel reservations and do some other errands around my daughter’s graduation.
