To save money, I decided to make my own homemade salad mix. I bought two items from the store and mixed in some kale and parsley from our overwintered garden. My goal is to use the parsley before it starts flowering, which it will when the weather warms up.

Cost breakdown
- Red lettuce: $2.29
- Radicchio: $2.49
- Kale/parsley: Free from the garden

I’m storing my salad greens in an Oxo produce keeper I bought on Amazon over 5 years ago. I probably need to buy a new filter since it’s supposed to be replaced every 3 months, however, I’ve never replaced mine. I haven’t noticed a difference. The carbon filter captures ethylene gas to help produce stay fresh longer. For our purposes, we haven’t had issues with produce going bad quickly.
