spring garden update 3.12.25

Spring is so close! Here in southwest Virginia, we are having what’s called a false spring, with temperatures reaching 70 degrees. Since I’m a bit behind in getting my cold-weather crops outside, I am using the warmer temperatures to bring my seedlings outside daily.

Lots of happy seedlings are doing their thing in our indoor greenhouses. I need to transplant the warm-weather seedlings in 4-inch pots. The thyme I started inside to fill in the many spots in our thyme bed are doing well.

The deer have been nibbling on the greening plants. I started spraying last week and I’ll keep spraying every week. I rotate between 2 brands of sprays in the hopes this befuddled the deer. Hope springs eternal.

I also put wire trash cans over some of the plants. These are grape vines that I planted last year. I use the longer landscape pins to hold the trashcans in place.

The arugula I put in pots on our front porch are coming up. This is the first batch of seeds. I put more seeds in the compost by the garage.

I have lots of tasks to do outside this week and next in the garden. I can’t wait to see what else is coming up!
