We have 2 dogs, a Bernese Mountain dog, and an English Labrador. Winston is our lab, and has an incredible temperament. If we had him when my kids were little, he would have put up with all kinds of shenanigans without a peep.
For whatever reason, Tobey (the BMD) needs a nail trim maybe once a year. He does need his floof (fur) on the bottom of his paws shaved regularly to prevent sliding on our wood floors. He’s figured out how to use the carpet to brake.
Anyhoo, Winston’s nails grow constantly. I’ve been taking him to the vet to get them trimmed for about $21. I decided to try doing it myself. I found a nail clipper/grinder kit on Amazon for $22.99. At the time, they offered a $5 off coupon, making my final cost $17.99.

We tried it this weekend, and the process went well. Since dogs have a vein that runs into their nail, I cut the nail conservatively. I can go back in a month and trim a little more. When finished, I rounded off the sharp edges with the nail grinder.
I’m pleased with how easy the process was. Winston wasn’t stressed by the sound of the nail grinder which is pretty quiet. I think it tickled more than anything. The grinder has 2 speeds and a light to help one see the nail. The grinding process was pretty quick. The grinder comes with a USB cord for charging.
