frugal friday 9.6.24

Time for my next edition of 5 frugal things.

  1. Leave plastic bottle under kitchen tap to collect drips. Our kitchen tap has been dripping off and on for several months. Since my husband has been working on other projects like the river birch stump, I simply stuck the plastic bottle under the tap and did my best to minimize the dripping.

2. Tweak the systems I use in my office to manage our family. I wrote about this earlier this week. Long story short, taking a moment or 2 to think about the process I use to manage everything led me to make changes using what I have. I’m still tweaking, and I may end up buying a basket or 2 from Goodwill. But for now, it’s good enough.

    3. and 4. Use up clearance yogurt by making vanilla yogurt cake AND save one of the cakes for making trifle. About 2 weeks ago, I bought 5 containers of flavored yogurt on clearance for my youngest son who decided he didn’t care for the consistency and taste of the yogurt. I found a simple vanilla yogurt cake recipe online and made it. The vanilla yogurt is perfect for this cake! However, yesterday, when I made a double batch, I forgot to add enough sugar to the first batch. I’m saving that cake to make trifle at Christmas time; no one will notice the lack of sugar.

    5. Make a coffee drink at home instead of hitting Starbucks. My daughter and I were feeling tired one afternoon, and she wanted to go out to Starbucks. I didn’t want to drive 15 minutes to pay for a drink. I grabbed a Keurig cup, popped it in the machine for coffee. Then, I made foamed cream with a zero sugar syrup with the same machine, and poured it over the coffee. As you can see in the picture above, the plastic lid for the cup is not in the best shape. But it works.
