While my husband dug up the roots of the trees we had removed last fall, I started working on our fountain.
When we moved in a few years ago, the fountain didn’t appear to be operational. The top piece had broken off. The bottom part was filled with irises and leaves. Last summer I moved the irises out of the fountain and planted them around the yard. They’re coming back this year, though no flowers yet. Maybe next year?

Since May has been a bit crazy for our family, I just started weeding this area last week. The mulch I put down last fall shifted allowing weeds to sprout in the path. I’m almost done weeding and re-mulching.
See the hose lying across the mulch? It’s connected to an underground watering system. I’m so happy someone had the foresight to put the system in! The system covers about 90% of the yard which will make our future project of installing soaker hoses much easier.

Back to the fountain….Yes, it tilts a bit; that’s not just my picture taking. The plan is to remove the large rocks and cinder block. That cinder block was in the water holding down landscape fabric. Yes, there’s landscape fabric in the bottom. My husband thinks the pond pump is working though we’re not sure.
Once the rocks are gone, my husband will take the fountain apart, and remove the landscape fabric. Then, he’ll set the pond to allow gravity to do its job, i.e. down hill draining of the water. After that, we’ll put everything back together and put in water plants. I’d also like to create a hardscape around the fountain with some low-growing bushes, probably roses.
