With the lettuce bolting in my back porch pots, I decided to switch them over to pots of annuals. I haven’t had much luck growing plants from seed in these pots. I suspect the porch doesn’t get enough light.

I decided to try the clearance plant section at Lowe’s. Whoever buys plants for the garden center at Lowe’s does a great job of picking out attractive plants and they’re taken care of by the employees. I always find good buys in the clearance section.

Today I found petunias and impatiens. The purple petunias had 3 plants in the pot. The hanging basket came with 4. The impatiens were 6 packs. My final total was $33.94.

I used my trowel to divide the plants.

When I planted the impatiens, I broke the roots up to encourage root activity.

The pot on the right holds geranium cuttings from a leggy geranium. So far they appear to be growing.

Fortunately we’ve had several days of rain over the past 7 days. I don’t have to worry about the pots drying out too quickly in the warmer temperatures.
The zucchini on the left has not produced anything other than inch long zukes. I’m not sure what the issue is.

I also picked up 4 small butterfly bushes and a phlox on clearance. They will all be in the full sun area of the yard.
