house projects

Over the past week, I’ve been working on 2 projects. I decided that I had enough of the wallpaper in the office, and started removing it. Then, my daughter decided she wanted to paint her room. After some back and forth with colors, she went with Sherwin William’s Intellectual Gray.

We finished wallpaper removal in the office this weekend. Either the wallpaper was super easy to remove or we’re getting the hang of it. Unfortunately, because I had to close the door to keep the dogs out, I had several unplanned facials during the process. This week, I’ll wipe down the walls with a vinegar solution to remove the glue residue and patch the walls. With the wallpaper removal being so easy, I don’t have much to patch other than holes for picture hooks. Then, I’ll prime the walls and paint.

This is the steamer I use to remove the wallpaper.

When we started cutting in the walls in my daughter’s bedroom, I didn’t anticipate how much work we would have to do. Whew! My daughter tapped off the shelves in the picture above and helped with the cutting in. I rolled the walls. This week, I’ll finish the cutting in.

As part of my ongoing effort to put pictures on our walls (yes, even though we’ll be painting them), I ordered a bunch of frames from Ikea. I like the Ikea frames for their price point and lack of glass. Having lost a few frames over the years to roughhousing, I love the clear plastic of the Ikea frames.

Pictured above are 3 Hygge and West sample wallpapers in gold metal Ikea frames. Samples are 8.5 x 11 and cost $5, plus shipping and taxes. Hygge and West offers traditional, pre-pasted, and peel-and-stick wallpaper. So many of their designs remind me of William and Morris wallpaper which I absolutely love. Hygge and West is pricey at approximately $200/roll. The peel-and-stick is slightly less. I would love to use their wallpaper as an accent in a future project. I think we would have a much better experience with the peel-and-stick than the brand we found on Amazon.
