Alternative title: don’t be afraid to hold out for what’s true and right
My first thought on writing this post was to explain my strategy for my pots. When I played around with possible titles I realized there was a deeper message to express.
My therapist noted recently that I’m clear about what I like, how I see things. It’s a clarity born of experience and maturity, of learning to accept who I am and my history. I’m not perfect. Absolutely not. I struggle with feelings and emotions in my marriage.
What’s point? I wasn’t going to share my driveway pots with anyone because they’re not finished. So many posts on Pinterest focus on the best this and the best that. Well, good enough works just as well. We can’t do the best at everything.
God expects us to be the best at one thing, fulfilling our fall to holiness in this world. That means knowing, loving and serving Hod. (Thank you, Baltimore Catechism.)

So, here are my pots which I’m working on. My goal is to have vibrant, colorful pots with height and trailing vines. I will need to visit at least 2 places for this goal. I want to smile when o see these pots, not mentally complain because they don’t match my vision.

In the round pots, I have an ornamental pepper, paired with 2 petunias. I picked these petunias for their vining habit. I’m looking for an annual with white flowers and sweet potato vine, preferably green. I kept the existing soil in the pot, fluffed it and topped it off with compost and fresh soil.
In this pot I have 2 petunias which I think I will flank with geraniums. Of course that could change once I hit the gardening department at Lowe’s.

Too often I think we rush to do or buy stuff without consideration for the bigger picture. Because I know what appeals to me and looks good, I’m willing to wait to find what works. I’m waiting to get what fits my vision. That’s not to say I can’t be flexible. Because I already have the big picture, I can pivot and adjust to use what I find.
Isn’t that what God wants for us? To accept that in order to become saints and answer God’s call to holiness, we will need to let go and learn to pivot and adapt, accepting what we can’t change and changing what we can.
