home projects: powder room and hallway

We’re making some progress on other home projects in addition to the breakfast room. I’m a bit impatient to get rid of the beige walls and wallpaper!

My husband decided to tackle the peel-and-stick wallpaper for the bathroom. He is very frustrated by the process. Very frustrated. He found the wallpaper to be a bit delicate and transparent. After he put up the first piece, he realized that the purple paint went too far up the wall. The plan is to have chair railing cover where the paint and paper meet. We didn’t expect the dark purple to be an issue, but it was.

Because my husband struggled with the wallpaper, I ended up ordering 4 more rolls of wallpaper. That brought our total for the room to 13 rolls. Let’s not forget one of the dogs munched on a piece or two of wallpaper….

I’ve been slowly repainting the upstairs hallway. I figured it could be an on-going project between working on the other projects. It’s easy for me to set up and work on this area, plus I don’t have to worry about the dogs.

I’ve started looking for replacement scones for this hallway. While I’m trying to spend money only where we need to, the sconces for this hallway were horrible, nor did they match each other.

Here are the sconces which are indicative of the style of the rest of the lighting. I don’t like candlestick lights, nor do I like the shade sconce on the wall all the way to the back of the picture. Actually, now that I’m looking at all these pictures, I’m not sure why we need these sconces! As you can see, there are lights in the ceiling which should be enough. We don’t need to turn on the lights very often with the amount of light coming up from below.

Last comment: see the 4-way switch at the end of the hallway? I had to label that switch and other ones because we have SO MANY light switches in this house. Don’t get me started on the number of ethernet ports The closet at the other end of this hallway has an ethernet port. Why? Is it a super secret hideaway? Why?
