time to update the office

Our Virginia house is a house of wallpaper. Seriously. I’m not against wallpaper. I’m a big fan of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, however, this wallpaper in our office is not that.

Our first wallpaper removal project was the first-floor powder room (those pictures are coming). Once we figured out how to remove wallpaper, the process was relatively easy. I highly recommend using a wallpaper steamer. We found that the removal happened in 2 steps, first the pattern and then the glued paper underneath.

The wallpaper here in the office is indicative of the patterns in the rest of the house. None of the wallpaper goes together. I’m not sure why this darker pattern was chosen for this room. When we moved in, there was a large ornate mirror on this wall. Since I knew we would be redoing this room, I just popped 2 pictures on the leftover hooks which is why they are not centered on the wall.

As you can see, the room has wonderful moulding running along the top of the walls. I plan on painting it high gloss white once I’m done to make the moulding pop a bit in this room.

I love the light coming from this row of windows which is why I set up my art table here. I’d like to hang plants in front of these windows.

These french doors are another feature I love about this room. When we update this room, I plan to make sure we have enough room to leave at least one door open at all times.

Storage is definitely lacking in this room which would be helpful for an office. I plan on keeping the hutch that holds paper supplies and other office supplies right now. I’d like to replace the filing cabinets at some point; both have a damaged drawer thanks to years of use. I also envision adding bookshelves to go up with storage rather than using the limited floor space.

Finally, the new wall color will be Wood Violet by Sherwin Williams. The front hall in the picture above will be painted Misty, also by Sherwin Williams, and the breakfast room on the other side of the front hall will be Cosmos by Sherwin Williams.
